Pre-Delivery Inspection(PDI) Check For Your Motor-Cycle
- Everyone on this planet like to buy new bikes, cars, mobile, accessories and many more. Before purchasing them we need to check that product completely before we are taking delivery of that product to our home (or) destination.
- As a biker i need to instruct (or) guide by buddies to follow these steps while taking the delivery of their brand new bike.
- I highly request you people, Don’t compromise to showroom dealers, technicians at any cost. No matter if the bike was not up to the mark you can choose other dealership.
- Lets Get Into The Article And I Request You To Go Though The Entire Article.
Things To Remember While Taking delivery Of A Brand New Bike(PDI CHECK):-
- Check for any dents(or)starches on the bikes
- Vehicle Identification Number(VIN)
- Check all the Electronics Components
- Check Suspension Setup both front and the rear
- Check the manufacture date of Battery
- Check the manufacture date of Tyre’s
- Check Engine,Break Oil Level and Alignment
- Test Ride the Bike
- First Aid Kit And Toolbox
- Safety Gear
(1).Check For Any Dents(or)Starches On The Bike:-
- Whenever you are taking delivery of a brand new bike always visit the showroom before 1 day taking the delivery the bike.
- You must definitely need to visit the showroom in the morning only to have a better PDI check
- Take out the bike to the bright place and walk around the bike first. I highly recommend you to carry a friend or a relative for a PDI checkup.
- Now you need to carefully each and every part of your bike whether their are any starches or any dents or any paint worn out on the bike.
- Especially you need to check all the metal parts whether they are scratch free or not.
- After completing this you need to check the odometer, TFT console carefully. If it is a TFT console or a digital screen you need to check the Display glass has no scratches.
- Next check all the plastic parts such as side indicators and tail lamp if they have any starches on it.
- Finally you check the Exhaust, Chassis are very shine and not looks like a old. Take a piece of cloth and wipe on the exhaust and check any scratches is present on the exhaust.
(2).Vehicle Identification Number(VIN):-
- It is very important to cross check your vehicle identification number with the paper work twice.
- You can find your VIN number on the engine chassis(or)engine frame(or)near to the headlamp bottom portion(or)on the handle bar.
- In VIN you can find all the details in which you can find when your motorcycle has been manufactured by the manufacturing company.
- I highly suggest you people to take the bike which is less than 45 days from the date of manufacturer most probably if it is a highly demanded bikes like Royal Enfield.
- If it is normal category bike always take the bike which has less than 20 days from the date of manufacturer at most conditions.
- Most probably your VIN number will match with the number mentioned on the paper work.
- Again you need to cross check it for sure.
(3).Check All The Electronic Components:-
- After completing the above 2steps you must and should check this particular step for sure where many people wont do this step.
- Insert your key in the bike and turn on the Ignition and check all the components on the odometer (or) digital digital is working well.
- Check each and every button on the handle bar is working well and identify whether their is no loose connections in the buttons while switching(or)pressing it.
- Next check the head lamp, DRL lights are working very well. Check the halogen lamp on the headlight is glowing bright and check the parking bulbs too.
- I highly suggest you to keep the ignition in ON condition for 10 minutes so that you can find any problems in headlamps. In most of the cases the parking bulbs which comes with halogen lamp will stop working within a day due to less resistance of the bulb.
- Next open the ECU box and check all the wiring connections are tightly connected and place at the right positions.
- After completing this turn ON the self start switch and it should start within a kick most probably if not no problem with it. You can neglect it.
(4).Check Suspension Setup On The Front Side And The Rear:-
- I highly suggest these step where many buyers definitely don’t consider this step at all.
- Basically when the bike is delivered from a storage van to garage the technician might drop your bike at the landing time to the ground and it might take effect to the suspension setup especially on the front side.
- You need to check the front suspension setup first where there is any oil leakage from the suspension setup and no starches on the suspension setup especially on the telescopic suspension setup.
- Next check the mono shock (or) gas charged suspension setup and adjust the position as per your requirement.
(5)Check The Manufacturer Date On The Battery:-
- Open the battery box and check whether their is any corrosion on the leads on the battery.
- Ask the technician to bring a multi meter and ask him to show the voltage on the battery.
- If the battery level was less than 10v never every accept that battery.
- Check the voltage of the battery before starting the engine and after starting the engine.
- If it is a brand new battery the voltage level will not fall down when you switch on self start.
- Next you need to check the manufacture month on the battery. In most cases your battery manufacturer month and the bike manufacturer month will definitely match in 90% of cases for sure.
(6).Check The Manufacturer Date On The Tyre's:-
- It is very easy to check the manufacturer date on the Tyre’s of the bike.
- The brand new Tyre’s always have a tiny hair like rubber strings on the Tyre’s.
- Rotate the Tyre’s of the bike and check whether the rubber on the Tyre is worn out (or) torn out.
- Next you need to check the alignment of the wheels when you rotate the Tyre’s of the bike.
- Always prefer MRF Tyre’s as the stock Tyre’s which offers long Tyre Life with a better road grip.
(7).Check Engine,Break Oil Level And Alignment
- Put your bike on the center stand and check the engine fluid level is on the maximum side only.
- Similarly check the break fluid and the coolant is topped fully and check the lubrication’s on the chain.
- Next you need to check the position of the gear level, break lever, clutch lever are exactly positioned and they are aligned at the right position.
- Many people including me faced this issue with the alignment of the back break lever. It was very loose when I taken delivery of my bike.
(8).Test Ride The Bike:-
- It is very important things to do after completing all the seven steps which I mentioned above.
- Ask the technician to take the bike for a spin. It is very important to ride the bike before your are taking the delivery of the bike.
- Take the bike and start up the engine and hear is their any rattling sounds from the engine and white smoke from the exhaust.
- Move the bike within a speed limit of 50kmpl and check the balance of the bikes. If possible leave the hands on the handle bar and check the bikes go in a straight way. If the bike falls and moves side by side then there will be definite fault in the chassis and engine frame design.
- You need to carefully check for that when you test ride the bike which you are going to take the delivery.
(9).First Aid Kit And Toolbox:-
- Now a days many dealers are trying to skip the first aid kit from the toolbox. When you question them they will definite will give a first aid kit for sure.
- I don’t know why many dealers are skipping first aid kit from the tool box. When I took my delivery of my bike they didn’t given me a first aid kit and i forgot-ted.
- Next check all the tools are present in the toolbox as they mentioned in the manual book.
(10).Safety Gear:-
- These days many manufacturer’s are offering a complimentary helmet while purchasing any bike.
- If they don’t offer a complimentary helmet I request each and every biker to buy a helmet according to your budget.
- It is very important to invest at least 10% of bike investment amount on their safety gear.
- I request each and every fellow rider to purchase at least a helmet and ride the bike wearing a helmet.
- At the end of the day Life is very important and very precious then your loved bike.
